Ways to Participate:
Attend local party meetings. Your town or county should have a Republican Party Club, and you should attend their meetings. Typically, any registered Republican can attend. Introduce yourself and learn about the important issues the Club is dealing with. Meeting Dates
Become a member. Join a committee and meet monthly to discuss and vote on the direction and activities of our local party. Check with your local Precinct Chair for more information.
Volunteer. During election season, the GOP needs volunteers to make calls, hand out information, and attend rallies. Stop into your town or county headquarters and volunteer. The work might be boring at first—stuffing envelopes and answering questions over the phone. However, it’s a great way to meet people and help out. Email your Precinct Chair to find out how you can make a difference! See Volunteer Sign-up Form below.
Receive updates. The primary purpose of joining your state party is to receive periodic updates about pending legislation at the state and national level. You might be invited to contact your elected representatives and ask them to vote a certain way.
Fundraise for the Republican Party. The GOP always needs money to support candidates running in national, state, or local elections. You can make contributions yourself but also fundraise. Money talks, and you’ll gain considerable prestige in the organization if you prove to be a good fundraiser. Information on donating is found below.
Participate in Precinct & County Conventions-
What is a Political Party Convention?
In Texas, parties hold their own conventions in election years. In even-numbered years, Texas Republicans hold precinct conventions, county or senatorial district conventions, a state convention, and in presidential years, a national convention.
The purpose of the conventions are to:
- Choose delegates and alternates to the next higher convention level, when applicable; and
- Consider resolutions or statements on policy issues to send to the next higher convention and/or for eventual inclusion in the state or national Party platform
Here in Llano County, the Precinct conventions are the first step towards the state convention. During the convention, participants elect permanent convention officers, usually a convention chair and secretary. They then elect delegates and alternates to advance to the County Convention. Finally, they deliberate and vote on any resolutions presented by participants.
What is a resolution?
A resolution is a formal written proposal submitted by a delegate at a Precinct, County (or Senate District), or State Convention of the Republican Party of Texas.
It expresses the opinion, will, or intent of the body and may:
- Propose new policy positions
- Amend or add planks to the Party Platform
- Urge elected officials to take specific actions
- Address local, state, or national issues
Resolutions are first considered at the Precinct Convention. If passed, they advance to the County or Senate District Convention, where they may be further reviewed, amended, and voted on. Those adopted at that level may then be forwarded to the State Convention for consideration by the appropriate committee and, potentially, adoption into the official Republican Party of Texas Platform.
Resolutions serve as a grassroots mechanism allowing delegates to influence the direction and policy priorities of the Republican Party from the local level upward.
Resolution Tool You Can Use: Resolution Portal – Republican Party of Texas
The Texas GOP has provided this voluntary tool to help make your resolution convention-ready! Using this tool is NOT an official submission of your resolution to a precinct, county/SD, or state convention. It’s simply a way to help organize your resolution and have a digital copy for easy editing. Print your resolution out and bring it with you to the Precinct Convention. Your precinct number is on your voter registration card.
